Plano schools: the districts, the grade structure and how to check an address

Key takeaway

Most Plano addresses are in Plano ISD, which covers 66 square miles of the city, but parts of west and northwest Plano are in Frisco ISD or Lewisville ISD. High school is split in two: grades 9-10 at one of six high schools, then grades 11-12 at one of three senior highs. The district earned a B (85 out of 100) in the Texas Education Agency's 2026 ratings, and the district's School Finder is the only reliable way to see which campuses serve a specific address.

Who this guide is for

You're moving to Plano with school-age children and want to know which district a home is in, how Plano ISD's grades are grouped, and how to check the campuses for an address before you make an offer.

Which school districts serve Plano addresses

If schools matter to your move, search by school district and feeder line first and by neighborhood second. The reason is that the city limit and the school district line don't match in Plano. The district says it serves about 100 square miles of southwest Collin County, and 66 of those square miles are inside the City of Plano. The rest of the district reaches into Richardson, Dallas, Murphy, Allen, Carrollton, Garland, Lucas, Parker and Wylie. So a home with a Plano mailing address can be outside Plano ISD, and a home in Murphy or Richardson can be inside it.

For a buyer this is the first filter, before any ranking. If a listing says "Plano" and "Plano ISD" in the same breath, treat the second part as a claim to check. Our map of where Plano sits in Collin and Denton counties shows the county line.

Plano ISD across most of the city

Most of the city is in this district. It's the district the rest of this page describes in detail: its grade structure, its feeder lines and its School Finder. Even in the middle of the city, the finder decides the campuses, not the listing.

Frisco ISD in Plano

Frisco ISD says its attendance zones cover students in parts of Frisco, Little Elm, McKinney and Plano. One current example: D.R. Horton's Mustang Square townhomes on Community Court in Plano 75024 list Frisco ISD campuses (Borchardt Elementary, Fowler Middle and Lebanon Trail High) on the builder's page. Frisco ISD's attendance zone search takes an address, a street name or a subdivision, and the district calls it a guide: confirm near a boundary.

Lewisville ISD in Plano

Lewisville ISD lists Plano among the 13 cities it serves: 2.62 square miles of Plano with 298 students, in the district's 2023 count. Kings Ridge, in the far west of the city on the Denton County side, is one example. Its HOA names Tom Hicks Elementary, Arbor Creek Middle and Hebron High on its site, all Lewisville ISD campuses. Lewisville ISD's 2026-2027 School Locator takes a street address, and the district's Student Services office answers questions at 469-713-5206. Our Kings Ridge neighborhood guide covers that part of Plano.

Allen ISD and other Plano edges

A statistical profile of Allen ISD lists Plano among the cities it touches, but neither Allen ISD nor Plano ISD names a Plano area served by Allen ISD on the pages we read. Treat it as unconfirmed. If you're buying on the far north or northeast edge of the city, check the parcel's tax record, which names the school district as a taxing unit, and then use that district's own finder.

How Plano schools change your house search

School lines shape where you look, not much what you pay. Each district sets its own school tax rate, but for tax year 2026 the rates on Plano addresses sit close together: Plano ISD $1.03275 per $100, Frisco ISD $1.0194 and Lewisville ISD $1.0778. On the typical 75024 home ($628,592) with the $140,000 school homestead exemption, Frisco ISD's school line comes to about $65 a year less than Plano ISD's and Lewisville ISD's about $220 more. So the district decides your campuses, and the tax difference is small enough to ignore. The Denton County side also changes the county line on the bill; our Plano property tax guide covers that.

Three questions settle how much school lines should drive your search:

  1. Does a specific district matter to you? Then filter by district before neighborhood. In northwest and far-west Plano one ZIP can hold three districts.
  2. Does a specific senior high matter? Then your search area is a feeder line: two 9-10 high schools feeding one senior high. Boundaries move (four campuses closed in 2025), so get the district's answer for the address before your option period ends.
  3. Neither? Then search by price and commute, and check the district only so you know which school rate is on the bill.

Plano schools and the west side

The Frisco ISD and Lewisville ISD pockets sit in west and far-west Plano, so that's where a listing's school claim most needs checking. The west Plano guide covers that side of the city, and the Plano vs Frisco comparison covers what else changes across that line.

Plano schools across the neighborhoods

Most of the city's neighborhoods sit in Plano ISD. If the district is settled and price is your next filter, the Plano neighborhood overview covers the range by area.

How Plano ISD schools are organized: K-5, 6-8, 9-10 and 11-12

The district runs a four-step model. Elementary is kindergarten through grade 5 and middle school is grades 6 to 8, which is common. High school then splits: grades 9 and 10 at a "high school" and grades 11 and 12 at a "senior high school". The Plano Senior High profile describes the campus as an 11th and 12th grade campus with two 9-10 feeder campuses.

The practical result: a student moves campus at grade 6, again at grade 9 and again at grade 11. When you check an address, write down all four assigned campuses, not just the elementary.

Elementary schools in Plano ISD (K-5)

The campus list on the district's Plano Senior High profile page shows 42 elementary schools, and Davis and Forman closed in 2025, so the count moves. Two of the four 2025 closures were elementary schools, so re-check that assignment close to closing.

Middle schools in Plano ISD (6-8)

Middle schools take grades 6 to 8. Armstrong and Carpenter middle schools closed in 2025 in the same consolidation, and their students were reassigned to nearby campuses. If you saw an older listing or map naming either school, it's out of date.

High schools in Plano ISD (grades 9-10)

The six 9-10 campuses are Clark, Jasper, McMillen, Shepton, Vines and Williams high schools. Each feeds one of the three senior highs. The feeder line matters more than the 9-10 campus name, because it decides where a student finishes.

Senior high schools in Plano ISD (grades 11-12)

The three senior highs are Plano Senior, Plano East and Plano West. Its profile puts enrollment near 2,300 students in two grades and its UIL classification at 6A. The IB World School is Plano East, which has offered the IB Diploma Programme since 1995.

Academy High School and other Plano ISD academies

Some programs sit outside the feeder lines. Academy High School is a grades 9-12 STEAM campus, and the Health Sciences Academy runs at Williams for grades 9-10 and Plano East for grades 11-12. Admission works differently from the address-based campuses: check each program's application dates on pisd.edu.

How to check the schools for a Plano address

Listing sites and school-rating sites show the nearest campus or an old boundary. Use the district's own tool and save the result. This takes ten minutes per address.

  1. Find the school district on the property's tax record or the seller's last tax bill. It's listed as a taxing unit.
  2. Enter the full street address in that district's finder (links below).
  3. Write down all assigned campuses: elementary, middle, and for Plano ISD both the 9-10 high school and the 11-12 senior high.
  4. Screenshot the result with the date. If the address is near a boundary, call the district and ask whether a boundary review is planned.
  5. Check each campus's latest TEA report card.

School Finder for Plano ISD

The district's School Finder is on pisd.edu under Schools and Other Facilities. Enter the address and it returns the campuses for each grade band.

Frisco ISD attendance zone search

Frisco ISD lets you search by address or browse by map, street name or subdivision. The district notes some campuses close to new enrollment when full, so a new student may be placed at a nearby campus.

Lewisville ISD School Locator

Lewisville ISD's locator has an address search for houses and a separate apartment search. Any Lewisville ISD campus can also confirm the assignment for an address.

Plano school district ratings from the Texas Education Agency

The Texas Education Agency grades every district and campus A to F each August. These are the latest district results for the districts that serve Plano addresses.

Lewisville ISDSee TEALook up the 2026 district report card2026

A district grade averages dozens of campuses. The district's B includes campuses rated A, such as Plano East Senior High in 2026, and campuses rated lower. Look up the four campuses for the address you're considering on the TEA's school report cards rather than leaning on the district letter.

The 2026 Plano ISD rating in context

In 2026 the district's student achievement score rose from 83 to 86, and its overall score rose 3 points to 85. The district has also closed four campuses since 2025 because of falling enrollment, which matters to you mainly through boundary changes: an address can move to a different campus between the year you buy and the year a child enrolls.

Plano ISD school transfers, closures and boundary changes

Because enrollment has fallen, Plano ISD has room on many campuses, and its enrollment page carries an inter-district transfer application for students who live outside the district. Dates, eligibility and tuition terms change each year, so read the current enrollment page rather than any summary, including this one.

Campus closures in Plano ISD in 2025

The board voted unanimously in 2024 to close Davis and Forman elementary schools and Armstrong and Carpenter middle schools, citing declining enrollment and budget pressure; the four campuses closed in 2025. Carpenter's students were reassigned to campuses such as Haggard, Hendrick and Schimelpfenig. More consolidation is possible, so ask the district about pending boundary studies for any address you shortlist.

School checks on a Plano relocation timeline

Plano schools FAQs

How many elementary schools are there in Plano ISD?

The campus list on Plano ISD's Plano Senior High profile page shows 42 elementary schools, all serving kindergarten through grade 5. The district closed Davis and Forman elementary schools in 2025 as part of a four-campus consolidation, so the number changes as enrollment shifts. For the current list, use the schools page on pisd.edu, and use the School Finder to see which elementary serves a specific address.

What division is Plano Senior High School?

It's classified as a UIL 6A school, according to the school's own profile page. It's an 11th and 12th grade campus with about 2,300 students and two feeder high schools for grades 9 and 10. The district's other two senior highs are Plano East and Plano West. UIL reclassifies schools every two years, so check the UIL site for the current cycle.

Why does Plano ISD split high school into 9-10 and 11-12?

The district runs six high schools for grades 9 and 10 and three senior high schools for grades 11 and 12, so each senior high draws from two high schools. Students change campus at grade 9 and again at grade 11. When you check an address, write down both the 9-10 high school and the 11-12 senior high, because the feeder line decides where a student finishes.

Is every Plano address in Plano ISD?

No. The district covers 66 square miles of the City of Plano, and parts of the city are in Frisco ISD or Lewisville ISD. Lewisville ISD alone serves 2.62 square miles of Plano, on the far west side. Check the school district listed on the property's tax record, then enter the address in that district's own finder or locator before you rely on any listing.

What is Plano ISD's rating?

It earned a B from the Texas Education Agency in the 2026 ratings, with 85 out of 100 points, up 3 points from the year before. Its student achievement score rose from 83 to 86. Frisco ISD, which serves part of Plano, earned an A with 91 points. Campus ratings vary inside each district, so look up the specific campuses for an address.

Can a listing tell me which Plano school a home goes to?

A listing can name nearby schools, but it can't guarantee an assignment, and boundaries change when districts consolidate or rebalance. In 2025, for example, Plano ISD closed four campuses. Use Plano ISD's School Finder, Frisco ISD's attendance zone search or Lewisville ISD's School Locator for the exact address, save a dated screenshot, and ask the district about planned boundary reviews.

Can I transfer into Plano ISD from another district?

The district's enrollment page includes an inter-district transfer application for students who live outside the district. Eligibility, dates and any tuition are set each year by the district, so read the current page on pisd.edu before you plan around it. Transfers within the district between campuses follow separate rules, also on the enrollment pages.
